Durham Tech students braved the 100-degree weather to put up garden beds this past Thursday, July 7.
Students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program built two garden beds for the residents of Charles House-Winmore.
One of the two garden beds was built to be wheelchair accessible.
The beds were lined with squash, green and jalapeño peppers, cucumber plants and various herbs donated by Garden Supply Company in Cary, according to a release.
Kristine Nguyen, OTA student service learning project chairperson, said in a statement that the garden beds have already produced enjoyment.
“We are really proud of the way the project turned out and pleased that our contributions to Charles House-Winmore are long-lasting and will be enjoyed for years to come by the residents,” Nguyen said.
The community service doesn’t end there as the OTA students plan to have an ice cream social on July 16 for the residents and their families.
