CHAPEL HILL – The Orange County 4-H Cooperative Extension Service along with the Chapel Hill Carrboro YMCA invites residents to participate in the Stewards of Children Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training.

It’s a free, three-hour training designed to educate adults about how to recognize, prevent and react responsibly to the reality of child sexual abuse, while placing emphasis on child safety.

The training class will take place on Thursday, May 30, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Food Lab at 306 Revere Road in Hillsborough.

The training seeks to educate and prepare the community to deal with and prevent child sexual abuse. It’s the only nationally available program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes and change child-protective behaviors.

The program is geared toward sports leagues, day care centers, after school programs, children’s clubs, church groups, and other adults who are interested.

To register for this training, please contact Sheronda Witter at 919.245.2057 or send an e-mail to sheronda_witter@ncsu.edu.

OurLocalDeal.com has generated $500,000 in revenue for local merchants.

It’s a local daily deal source and has sold 43,567 vouchers for more than 320 local businesses since its debut in 2011.

Like Groupon or LivingSocial, local businesses offer community members a product or service at 50 percent off or more through OurLocalDeal.com.  The consumer prints the voucher or displays it on a smartphone and redeems it as soon as the next day.  The consumer can also share the deal with friends and colleagues, receiving the product or service for free, if four of their friends also purchase the deal.

Unlike Groupon and LivingSocial, OurLocalDeal is hyper-local and focused on exclusively serving and supporting our community’s businesses, giving them a better chance at developing repeat customers, while giving great deals to local shoppers.  Additionally, OurLocalDeal is unique in that each business receives radio exposure and each deal is pushed out through multiple social media outlets.
