Last year an ice storm knocked out the power. This year the weather will be a lot better.

This Saturday, February 20, the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough will host the 16th annual Revolutionary War Living History Day, commemorating the occupation of Hillsborough by British General Lord Cornwallis in the winter of 1781. (Cornwallis and his army were in the area trying to rally British loyalists. They weren’t able to recruit many.)

Visit the Alliance’s website for more information.

Living History Day will take place from 10 am to 4:30 pm at the Hillsborough Visitors Center (150 E. King Street), with local reenactors, colonial dancing performances, spinning and weaving demonstrations, kids’ activities, a book signing by novelist Suzanne Adair, and demonstrations about Occaneechi life by John Blackfeather Jeffries. There will also be historical tours as well as other events at the Burwell School and the Orange County Historical Museum.

Michael Verville and Lindsey Payton of the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough joined Aaron Keck on WCHL to discuss Living History Day – along with Jeremiah DeGennaro, who’s leading a historical tour, and reenactor Dave Snyder.
