CHAPEL HILL – The Chapel Hill Public Library asked when you want its added hours placed in the schedule, and by the end of the summer should set the plan in motion.
A quick questionnaire, which got more than 1,100 responses, found that participants most wanted to see increased service on Saturdays and Sundays. Chapel Hill Public Library director, Susan Brown, says these desired changes will soon be enacted.
“We are pleased to announce today that we will be adding an additional six more hours,” Brown says. “The plan is by the end of August.”
On Saturdays, the library will open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m; on Sundays, it will open from noon to 6:00 p.m.
In the meantime, the library is adjusting work schedules and hiring more employees to get ready for the new hours. Once that process is complete, Brown says the new schedule will take place immediately.
The library’s hours of operation will expand again later in the year in what Brown calls phase two of the process.
“We should be able to restore an additional four more hours,” Brown says. “Those, we’re going to be a little bit more thoughtful and timely and think about staffing and strategy and services.”
According to Brown, approximately 1,400 people visit the Chapel Hill Public Library each day.
