Two Town of Chapel Hill employees have been awarded the town’s highest employee honor.

The 2017 W. Calvin Horton Service Award winners were announced on Sunday by Town Manager Roger Stancil as part of the town’s Employee Appreciation Day at the UNC Friday Center.

Joseph McMiller, Assistant Operations Manager at Chapel Hill Transit, and Heather Robinson, Master Firefighter, were given the award.

McMiller has served on various committees during his tenure with the municipality, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration committee and the Employee Forum. He has also organized a Hurricane Matthew Relief Drive and started the Stuff the Bus event, which uses city buses to collect and deliver gently used clothing and other items to the local IFC.

Robinson, outside of being an instrumental member of her firefighting crew, works for the “SciWhy” fire science program and was a founding member of the Wellness at Work program.

The award was initiated in 2007 to honor the 16 years of service of former Town Manager Cal Horton.
