CHAPEL HILL – Carolina Pride sportswear, a staple store on Franklin Street for more than 20 years, closed its doors Tuesday night. The store hosted a going-out-of business sale to clear the remaining merchandise.

Carolina Pride is not the only business to close, though. Pepper’s Pizza, after decades on Franklin Street, closed in March. Kildare’s Irish Pub also shutdown unexpectedly just before St. Patrick’s Day. Jake’s Pizzeria and Jack Sprat Café closed recently as well.

Businesses have also opened on Franklin Street this year. Mellow Mushroom opened in March, and Fitzgerald’s Irish Pub opened in May, in the same location where Kildare’s had been before. Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, which is a part of the mixed-use development, 140 West Franklin, opened in the spring.
