Registration is open now for the fourth annual St. Paul Village 5K Walk/Run, set for Saturday, March 5, beginning at 9 a.m. at McDougle Middle School in Carrboro.
Chapel Hill’s St. Paul AME Church (located downtown on Merritt Mill Road) holds the event every year to benefit St. Paul Village, a 20-acre multi-use development planned for the Rogers Road community. St. Paul’s website describes the village as a three-phase project that “includes a new worship sanctuary and fellowship hall; mixed-use senior and affordable housing; childcare, youth, and senior centers; recreational facilities; a wellness center; a health clinic; an historical museum; and a memorial garden.”
Anissa McClendon and Joe Bynum of St. Paul AME Church joined Aaron Keck on WCHL this week to talk about the event and the St. Paul Village project.
The 5K will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, with food and family-friendly activities to follow after the race is over. Proceeds from the Walk/Run will primarily benefit the St. Paul Village project, but some of the proceeds will also go to the Orange County Rape Crisis Center and the Bouncing Bulldogs.
