CHAPEL HILL- More than 275 works of art by local women will be up for sale at Top of the Hill next month, at an annual Chapel Hill exhibit for a very good cause.

It’s called “Through Women’s Eyes, by Women’s Hands,” and this year it’s at 7 p.m. on March 7, in the Great Room of Top of the Hill on Franklin Street.

Proceeds will benefit the Compass Center for Women and Families.

“We provide, career, legal and financial assistance for women,” says Compass Center board member Holly Gunning. “It could be someone who’s going though a divorce; someone who wants to start a business; also, there’s the domestic violence end of it. We have a 24-hour hotline.”

The paintings are created and hung without signatures or credits, so that buyers will choose the works based solely on what they like.

“It’s local artists, and North Carolina artists that create these works of art,” Gunning says. “They’re five-by-sevens, they’re anonymous, and they’re beautiful.”

All paintings are on sale for $50 each. Pottery and jewelry will also be available this year.

Last year, more than 300 people showed up for the exhibit.

Marya McNeish says it’s a special event for the female artists that lend their time and talent.

“It’s a fun event because there are some well-known artists who participate, and some people who are just getting their feet wet.”

There is also a live auction, featuring well-known area artists that have contributed sculptures and paintings.

Tickets range from $5 for a single raffle ticket to $250 for Golden Circle Sponsors.

Live jazz with be provided by Ken Brown at the 6 p.m. sponsor’s reception.
