CHAPEL HILL – Parking is free on Sundays in downtown Chapel Hill, but this holiday season parking will be free throughout the whole weekend.

The Town of Chapel Hill will be offering free parking on Saturday’s at all municipal lots, the Wallace parking deck, the 140 West lot, and all street metered parking.

Parking specials will begin around Thanksgiving with metered parking become free on Thursday November 28 and Friday November 29. All of the municipal lots will also become free on Thursday the 28.

The Town of Chapel Hill will put up its annual holiday decorations, a snowflake, in downtown Chapel Hill beginning tomorrow.

Town Crews expect to finish setting up the decorations before thanksgiving, depending on the time weather.

Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt will flip the switch at Chapel Hill’s tree lighting ceremony on December 1 at 6:00 p.m. in the memorial garden of the University Baptist Church on Columbia Street.

After a performance by the church choir and the handbell choir, Kleinschmidt will flip the switch for the 22-foot tree.  At the ceremony children can meet Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and have their picture taken for free.

Hot Cocoa and baked goods will be available for purchase.
