CHAPEL HILL –  Long-time Chapel Hill resident and proprietor of the University Inn and Pine Restaurant, Charles Nottingham, died Friday at the age of 94.

Nottingham died at Carolina Meadows where he was residing.

He was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. Nottingham and his wife, Bee—who died in 2002—enjoyed traveling during their retirement, including places Charles saw during the war.

A celebration of his life will be held in the Carolina Meadows auditorium Monday at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Carolina Meadows.
