The Chapel Hill Public Library asked local artists this year to help celebrate Banned Books Week by making trading cards inspired by banned writers.

Banned Books Week, which starts Sunday and lasts seven days, is an annual celebration of the freedom to read, and to raise awareness of challenges to intellectual freedom.  Each day, a new card will be revealed and given away at the library.  The cards have facts about the book, the author, and the artist.

From a selection of 48 cards, a small jury including Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt, selected the seven that will be presented during the week. The library will host an exhibition of all forty-eight entries to the project, and will also offer the cards for sale online. For more information on Banned Book Week click here.
