CHAPEL HILL – The Chapel Hill Council Committee on Boards and Commissions has proposed a system of five advisory boards to support the Town’s development process.

Town Council invites interested community members and advisory board members to learn and comment on the proposal in a series of input sessions.  These sessions will take place every Monday at 6:30 p.m. from July 8 to August 12.

The first session will be an overview of the proposal discussing the goals and structure of the advisory boards.  Each subsequent meeting will focus on one of the five proposed boards: transportation and connectivity, community design, environmental stewardship, community housing, and planning board.

The Orange County Department of Aging invites the public to discover the Gentle Joy of Yoga, taught by Joy Gorntohas.  Gorntohas practiced yoga for many years and has been teaching since May 2011. She also as a certificate of completion from Duke Integrative Medicine in Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors.

Whatever your age or physical condition, practicing yoga promotes psychological well-being as a result of everyday stress and coping with health challenges.

The classes are available at Central Orange Senior Center on Mondays and Thursdays.  For more information on programs for seniors click here.

Orange County Asset Management Services announces contractors will begin drilling and installing Geo-thermal wells on July 15 near the Farmer’s Market Pavilion and District Attorney Building in Hillsborough.

The Geo-thermal systems aim to produce an energy reduction of 30 to 40 percent for the Orange County Jail, Historic Courthouse, District Attorney Building, and Court Street Annex.

The drilling is estimated to take around 90 to 120 days, resulting in the Saturday Farmer’s Market relocating to the parking lot in front of the Sheriff’s Department on East Margaret Lane.

During various times through the drilling, parking near the Market Pavilion will be impacted, free parking spaces will be available in the parking garage behind Weaver Street Market.
