Chapel Hillians crowded Peace and Justice Plaza Monday evening to rally for proper immigration reform.

WRAL reports Chapel Hill resident Martha Beach organized the rally after visiting Florida last year. She says she saw good being done by parents trying to make a better life for their children.

President Barack Obama asked Congress for $3.7 billion earlier this month to assist in the situation. However, Republican lawmakers oppose the move. They say they want stronger border control, and Texas Governor Rick Perry is asking for 1,000 National Guard troops to line the border and try to keep immigrants out.
