The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will begin long-awaited renovations later this month.

The remodeling was postponed last year while members debated whether or not to do away with two racquetball courts. After soliciting feedback, the board of directors reversed course and decided to keep the courts.

Construction on new fitness and childcare areas will begin on October 13. During construction the front entrance and upper floor will be closed. Most classes will be relocated to the Y’s Meadowmont facility.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA merged with the YMCA of the Triangle earlier this year. As a result, local members will have free access to all of the Triangle Y’s thirteen branches in the region.
