The Radio Television Digital News Association announced Tuesday morning that WCHL and Chapelboro.com have won three Region 8 Edward R. Murrow awards for small market radio stations, as voted on by their peers.

“We are extremely proud to be honored with three awards named after one of the former leaders of radio news broadcasting,” says WCHL News and Sports Director Ran Northam.

The awards recognize the best electronic journalism produced by radio, television and online news organizations around the world.

Chapelboro.com, WCHL’s affiliated website, received the Broadcast Affiliated Website award. Chapelboro.com not only provides a portal to all of the news and sports content created by WCHL, but also includes lifestyle and opinion content through various media including audio, photos, and video.

Reporter Rachel Nash was honored with the Audio Continuing Coverage award for her stories on the Moral Monday rallies in Raleigh. Nash traveled to Raleigh for 13 weeks of demonstrations to report on the movement that sought to change the Republican-led General Assembly’s agenda.
