Orange County Firearm Safety Committee’s first meeting will be held at the Link Government Services Center on Wednesday, June 22. The center is located at 200 S. Cameron St. in Hillsborough and will start at 7:00 p.m.

There was public backlash towards a proposal that would eliminate recreational shooting of a gun after 6 p.m., making 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the only time gun-owners could use their firearms legally. After examining issues, the board unanimously approved the creation of the Orange County Firearm Safety Committee.

In mid-May, the board approved the committee’s eight members, pulling from a pool of nearly 50 applicants. The committee was created to advise the board about concerns raised in Orange County regarding firearms safety and noise and to recommend County-based solutions, if proven necessary to address.

The meeting is open to the public, as with all advisory boards and commissions.

The BOCC Public Meeting Calendar lists notices of locations, dates and times for all meetings, but more information about the Firearm Safety Committee specifically can be found via Orange County’s website.
