Michelle Johnson is resigning her post on the Carrboro Board of Aldermen at the end of May.

Johnson announced the move in a release Tuesday morning saying that she will be relocating in June 2017.

The release says Johnson “has enjoyed her time serving the Carrboro community and is excited to see how town goals and priorities will progress in the future.”

Johnson is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in adolescent and adult psychotherapy.

Johnson was first elected to the board in 2011 and was reelected in 2015. Her current term was set to run through 2019.

Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle said in an e-mail Tuesday afternoon that the board will discuss options for filling the seat closer to Johnson’s resignation date. The board can appoint a member to fill out the term or have the seat filled in the November election.
