CHAPEL HILL – The Chapel Hill Town Council will review the cost to repair flood damage to town facilities when the council meets Monday.

Town Hall was flooded following the record rains in late June, so the council will be meeting at the Southern Human Services Center for the foreseeable future.

In a memo Town Manager Roger Stancil says the cost to repair the damage could be as much as $680,000 dollars.

In addition, 18 of the 26 units in the Airport Gardens public housing neighborhood were damaged by flood waters, requiring an additional $450,000 to make the apartments habitable again.

Stancil says money for the Town Hall repairs will come out of the town’s general fund, while insurance will cover some of the cost to fix up Airport Gardens.

The CHTC will likely approve a budget amendment tonight to pay for the repairs.

Council members will also review the progress of the Glen Lennox redevelopment process, and could authorize town staffers to begin negotiating a development agreement with Grubb Properties Incorporated.

The council meets Monday at 7:00 p.m. in the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead Road.
