After more than 24 hours, a Do Not Use order has been lifted for areas served by Orange Water and Sewer Authority.

Officials rescinded the ban just after two o’clock Saturday afternoon.

OWASA customers are still being asked to conserve water.

Tips from Orange County to conserve water include:

  • Take short showers (less than 3 minutes); shower instead of taking a bath, which uses more water.
  • Delay washing clothes until normal water use is allowed.
  • Turn off water when not in use for brushing teeth, etc.
  • Wash only full loads of dishes.
  • Use paper plates and plastic utensils to reduce dishwashing.
  • Check for and fix any leaks in toilets, faucets, hoses, pipes, etc.
  • Flush toilets only when necessary.
  • Defer washing vehicles with drinking water.

Residents in Foxcroft Drive are under a boil-water advisory.

Local restaurants and lodging facilities were told at two o’clock on Saturday afternoon that they could reopen.

Water distribution sites established in Carrboro and Chapel Hill will remain open until six o’clock Saturday evening.
