A nationwide initiative on civic engagement and voter registration has garnered the attention of students and faculty at Durham Technical Community College.

The initiative was started by two collegiate nonprofit organizations that sought to bolster the turnout of student voters in the presidential election held last year.

Those organizations are the Campus Vote Project — an offshoot of the Fair Elections Legal Network — and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

Over 80 colleges across the country have been designated as voter-friendly by these organizations, with Durham Tech having recently received the designation for itself.

Voter-friendly campuses are considered by the two organization as being supportive of efforts to help students participate more readily in the political process.
