CHAPEL HILL – Chapel Hill’s Kevin Bowerman and Raymond Gao—at just 14 years old— are going to Hollywood. The partners won the 2013 National School Scrabble Championship earlier in May and one of their rewards is getting to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this Friday.

“I’m pretty excited to be on the show. I think it’s a pretty big accomplishment to win but to also to appear on national TV. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Bowerman said.

The two won seven games in the Scrabble tournament and then the championship game.  Now they will face Kimmel himself.

Bowerman says he’s not nervous and is more excited for the whole experience.

The other scheduled guests are Mark Ruffalo from movies The Incredible Hulk and the Avengers; the musical guest is Reggie Watts.

Bowerman says one of his favorite aspects of going on the show is hearing what his friends think about it.

“I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and ask me to give them a shout-out on the show,” Bowerman said.

Bowerman and Gao just completed the eight grade—Bowerman will attend Chapel Hil lHigh School and Gao is heading to East Chapel Hill High School.

The partners will make their TV debut Friday at 11:35 PM EST on ABC.
