CHAPEL HILL – Andrew Davidson will join incumbents Shell Brownstein and James Barrett on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board.

“I’ve served for three years now in various roles in the local district, and I think the endorsements from the Independent Weekly helped,” Davidson says. “But I think the voters also know that I was an experienced candidate. I think that’s what put it over the top.”

Davidson defeated Ignacio Tzoumas by just seven percent as the two were separated by only about 1,300 votes.

Both incumbents received a large portion of the votes, each garnering more than 5,000. Brownstein received the most votes with 33 percent while Barrett received 30 percent.

Barrett was elected to a two-year short term in 2011. He says Tuesday’s results energize him for continuing and serving for a full term.

“It’s quite an honor to be re-elected—to have folks affirm the work that’s been done over the years,” Barrett says.
