A former fourth-grade teacher at Estes Hills Elementary School has filed to run for a seat on the Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools Board of Education.

An extended filing period was opened on Monday to fill the unexpired term of Annetta Streater, who resigned from the board last month.

Five candidates filed during the standard filing period this summer for the three seats up for election this fall, and Kim Talikoff joined them by filing on Monday. The special filing period is set to run through Friday.

Chapel Hill – Carrboro City Schools spokesperson Jeff Nash confirmed that Talikoff was a fourth-grade teacher at Estes Hills Elementary before resigning at the end of the last academic year. Nash said that Talikoff was with the district from August 2013 through June 2017.

The three candidates who receive the most votes this fall will fill the full terms on the board, while the candidate receiving the fourth-most votes will assume the remainder of Streater’s term.

Early voting starts in Orange County on October 19. Election Day is set for November 7.
