2013 CHTC Candidate Profile: D.C. Swinton

By Ran Northam Posted October 7, 2013 at 7:32 am

CHAPEL HILL – Chapel Hill Town Council candidate, D.C. Swinton, says as a member of the Council, he would strive to make Chapel Hill a town with zero tolerance of sexual and domestic violence.

“I fell like considering everything that happened last year with the Landen Gambill case, it’s very paramount that we actually make the town an environment that survivors  feel comfortable in, that we have all the resources necessary for them to be able to, I guess, heal, and feel like they will receive justice if they so choose to report,” Swinton says.

WCHL’s Ran Northam spoke with Swinton about his seeking election to the Town Council and how he believes he’ll best serve you.

Nine candidates are contending for four seats on the town council.

Swinton is the youngest candidate at 25 years old. He says as a council member, he will hit the streets to talk to you and find out what the most important issues are in the town.

“I definitely want to go out to neighborhoods and speak to people more frequently,” Swinton says. “I ride the bus all the time, so I’ve spoken to the drivers during my campaign to see what they felt about how to improve transit, and I feel like they are (some) of the best people you could talk to about improving transit on top of the ridership.”

Between now and Election Day, we’ll be previewing each of the candidates one-on-one.
