This is according to a list released by 24/7 Wall Street.  The website put Durham-Chapel Hill at No. 5 on their list of “Best Cities for Single Mothers.”

The website cites the access to childcare, affordability, and income as reasons why the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area is a good place for single mothers.  According to their study, “A single mother has to work 49.6 hours per week at the median wage to afford a typical two-bedroom apartment in Durham-Chapel Hill, one of only nine metro areas in which this measure is less than 50 hours.”

The area’s educational opportunities are also highlighted.

Norwich-New London, Connecticut landed at the top spot on the list.
