RALEIGH — Orange County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state— at 5.3 percent—for the month of April. That’s a drop from March’s rate of 5.6 percent. By comparison, the rate in April of 2012 was 5.7 percent—according numbers released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Among North Carolina’s Metro areas, Durham-Chapel Hill also had the lowest rate—at 6.3 percent. State-wide, rates decreased in 97 of North Carolina’s counties in April, and all 14 of the State’s metro areas experienced rate decreases as well.
