John Edwards To Open New Raleigh Law Firm, CNN Reports
CHAPEL HILL – Former Sen. John Edwards plans to open a new law firm this September, CNN reported Wednesday morning. Edwards was unavailable for comment.
The firm will be based in Raleigh and will focus on plaintiff work, according to a source of CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
Edwards, who currently lives in Chapel Hill and attending UNC’s School of Law, was a 2004 candidate for vice president who went on to make a bid for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Prior to that, he was a nationally known attorney, specializing in plaintiffs’ representation for medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability lawsuits.
In May 2012, he admitted to an extramarital affair in August 2008 with Rielle Hunter. The two have a daughter, Hunter, together. Edwards was married to Elizabeth Edwards until their legal separation in January 2010. Eleven months later, Elizabeth died of cancer.
The Justice Department had accused Edwards of using nearly $1 million in illegal campaign contributions to keep his Hunter’s pregnancy a secret as he began a second presidential bid in 2008. After more than 50 hours of deliberation last May, a North Carolina jury acquitted him on one of the six counts against him and deadlocked on the other five.Did you see something wrong in this story, or something missing?
