Hyatt will open a new hotel at Southern Village in Chapel Hill this spring according to a press release issued last week by the multinational corporation.

The release claims that the 110-room Hyatt Place hotel will offer 30 new jobs to residents of Orange County and generate nearly $260,000 in annual property tax revenue.

The hotel will feature a sculpture by local award-winning artist Jeff Hackney as well as water-saving fixtures and lighting control systems that reinforce sustainability models.

D. R. Bryan, the principal owner of Southern Village, touted the hotel as “an economic development project” with benefits for tourists, travelers, and the business community.

Patrons of Southern Village already enjoy a variety of restaurants, corporate outlets, and green spaces encased in pedestrian-friendly architecture.

Those patrons will soon have temporary lodging at their disposal along with over 1,700 square feet of meeting space and an outdoor pool when Hyatt opens the hotel on May 2.
