Two construction projects scheduled to start this week in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough will impose traffic delays and water service disruptions upon motorists and local businesses.

The disruption in water service will occur in Hillsborough between the hours of 11:00 PM on Sunday and 3:00 AM on Monday while a fire hydrant outside Antonia’s Restaurant is replaced.

During those hours, businesses on the west side of South Churton Street between West King Street and West Margaret Lane will not have access to running water.

A water pipe under Hillsborough Street in Chapel Hill is also scheduled to be replaced, with labor expected to commence on Thursday at 7:00 AM and end as early as Friday.

As a result of that labor, traffic along Hillsborough Street between East Rosemary and North streets will be condensed onto a single lane by construction crews.

According to a news release from town staff in Chapel Hill, bus routes will not be affected, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes while construction is underway.
