CHAPEL HILL – The Orange County Sheriff’s office was involved in a foot chase yesterday— looking for a suspect on the run. The man’s name is Jeffry Dawes—he’s about 5’5. The chase began near Mount Sinai Road and Cascade Drive sometime around 4 p.m.

At this point—we don’t know if local law enforcement was able to track Dawes down.

“He ran and there was a foot pursuit. He hasn’t been caught. Our people are there with our tracking dogs trying to locate him,” said Orange County Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass.

Pendergrass said Dawes is a 20-year-old black male —wearing a white shirt— last seen near 5805 Cascade and was not armed.

The OC Sheriff’s Office worked with the NC Department of Public Safety, the State Bureau of Investigation and the ALE .

“The man has outstanding warrants on him and the future task force is trying to locate him,” Pendergrass said.

WCHL first received reports of the chase via a phone alert issued by the Sheriff’s Department.
