Durham Police have arrested a man after a standoff at an apartment on Junction Road.
Police say 23-year-old Messiah Gattis was taken into custody but not without obstacles. Hostage negotiators and the Selective Enforcement Team were called to the scene around 6:20 Thursday evening, according to authorities, after Gattis refused to come out of the apartment at 322 Junction Road.
Police say Gattis surrendered around nine o’clock Thursday night.
Gattis was wanted in connection with a December 26 shooting in a shopping center parking lot on Avondale Drive. A vehicle was damaged but no one was injured in the shooting, according to authorities.
Police say Gattis has been charged with injury to property, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, carrying a concealed weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, discharging a firearm from an enclosure, 10 counts of discharging a firearm within the city limits and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
Gattis was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $101,000 bond.
