CHAPEL HILL – Police are investigating an strong-armed robbery and assault that happened Monday morning near the intersection of Franklin St. and Church St.

According to reports, two male non-UNC students were approached by three males after leaving an establishment on Franklin St. around 2:00 a.m. After a brief conversation, the three males drove away in a silver sedan and returned shortly after in the same vehicle, exited it, and assaulted the two victims, taking a wallet and a cell phone.  No weapons were reportedly seen.

The assailants were described as three black males in their mid-twenties, of average height and slim build; one suspect reportedly had short dreadlocks.
