Law enforcement authorities are continuing to investigate the triple murder from earlier this week in Chapel Hill.

Three Muslim college students were shot and killed, and 46-year-old Craig Stephen Hicks is in custody and charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

The preliminary investigation from police points to an ongoing parking dispute as the motive for the shooting. Others wonder if racial bias played in to the incident.

Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall spoke with WCHL’s Blake Hodge about the implications of the crime being prosecuted as a murder over a parking dispute or as a hate crime.

Woodall is not prosecuting the case because, while the shooting occurred in Chapel Hill, it was technically in Durham County.
