An Orange County woman has been charged with insurance fraud.
Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of 35-year-old Tammi Nichole Chabot of Mebane on one count of insurance fraud and one count of attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
Chabot is accused of providing false statements while filing a claim associated with the timing of water damage to her residence. Chabot is accused by investigators of activating water damage coverage after the damage has occurred.
Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted with arresting Chabot in early February, according to a release. Chabot was placed under a $5,000 bond.
The Department of Insurance estimates that 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward paying fraudulent claims.
