Orange County authorities are investigating after an individual was found shot and killed in Cedar Grove Wednesday night.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that deputies were responding to a call at 8:42 p.m. when they located the deceased on Eno Cemetery Road.

Deputies, according to the sheriff’s office, were on the scene within two minutes of the shooting being reported “as a domestic situation involving weapons.”

Law enforcement officials said this was not a random act and there is “no danger to the general public.”

“This is the second death resulting from a domestic situation that our Office has investigated within the past six months,” Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “When our deputies respond to a domestic violence call, they are acutely aware of the potential lethality of the situation.  For that reason, deputies receive specialized training about domestic violence.”

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and “charges will be pursued as appropriate.”

The identities of the deceased or any others involved in the shooting were not immediately released.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact Investigator Woodlief at (919) 245-2900.

The sheriff’s office also encouraged anyone who is or knows someone who is dealing with issues of domestic violence to contact the Compass Center for Women and Families at (919) 929-7122. The Sheriff’s Office Crisis Unit is also available to assist victims of domestic violence at (919) 245-2900.
