A Chapel Hill resident was arrested last Saturday near the 140 West Franklin apartment complex for allegedly committing a felony assault with a knife on multiple victims.

According to an arrest report from the Chapel Hill Police Department, Heath Andre Brittian was charged with communicating threats as well as assault with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Capt. Joshua Mecimore, a public affairs officer with the Chapel Hill Police Department, cited that Brittain and the victims may have known each other.

“It looks like this was some sort of ongoing dispute between […] at least a group of folks and one person,” explained Mecimore.

The arrest report states that the names of the victims in the attack were redacted “due to fear of violence against them by the offender.”

According to Mecimore, one of the victims was stabbed repeatedly and taken to the UNC Medical Center with sustained injuries that were non-fatal.

“The suspect […] eventually stabbed the victim multiple times,” stated Mecimore.

Arresting officers noted in the report that Brittain had consumed drugs or alcohol prior to the incident after obtaining a DNA sample from him.

He allegedly refused an interview with those officers and was taken to the Orange County Jail with a secured bond of $50,000.

Brittian’s trial date at the Orange County Courthouse is pending.
