An Orange County woman has been arrested and charged with insurance fraud in connection with an automobile accident that occurred earlier in the year.

Events surrounding the arrest were set in motion on August 28 when Vickie King Lee, a resident of Hillsborough, allegedly reported preexisting injuries to her insurance company after her involvement in a vehicle collision. Those reports were enough for law enforcement offers at the North Carolina Department of Insurance to take notice.

Lee was arrested within the county on December 14 after her case was investigated. Her bond was set at $2,500, and her case is now one of over 250 that are currently pending in courts across the state for insurance fraud.

A recent press release from the NCDoI stated that 10 percent of all insurance premium payments go toward the payment of fraudulent claims. Over $72 million in restitution and recovery for victims of insurance fraud has been delivered by the department since 2009.
