Prosecutors say they want to meet with the family of slain UNC professor Feng Liu before deciding whether to seek the death penalty for the men accused of his murder.

Troy Arrington and Derick Davis are each charged with first degree murder in the July death. Police say they beat Liu in the head with a rock before stealing his wallet and leaving him on a residential side street near campus.

Liu later died from his injuries.

ABC 11 reports both men were scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing where Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall would announce if prosecutors planned to seek the death penalty for the two defendants.

However, Woodall is reportedly holding off on that announcement until the family of the victim has weighed in.

The next hearing is set for December 16.
