A Chatham County woman has been arrested on charges she stole money from an Ohio-based cancer charity.
Authorities say 46-year-old Michelle Lowery-Rowan was arrested by Chatham County Sheriff’s Office deputies as the local agency was assisting the Athens County, Ohio, Prosecutor’s Office by conducting a search of a home on Grovewood Lane.
Lowery-Rowan is accused of taking funds from an Athens County non-profit “Chix 4 a Cure.” Lowery-Rowan served as treasurer of the organization and was formerly a resident of Glouster, Ohio.
She is accused of money laundering, grand theft, telecommunications fraud, tampering with records, forgery and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, according to the sheriff’s office. Lowery-Rowan is being held under a $750,000 secured bond while awaiting her first appearance in Chatham County District Court on January 8, 2018, before she is extradited to Ohio.
