The Chapel Hill Police Department has received calls from citizens claiming scammers are impersonating police and other agencies requesting money to clear criminal charges from their record.
Chapel Hill Police warn that these calls should be considered fraudulent and request that any calls of this nature be reported to them immediately. Similar scams have been reported by other local law enforcement agencies.
If anyone asks for money, gift cards or personal information while claiming to be a police officer, the Chapel Hill Police Department requests that you take note of identifying details such as accent, what agency they claim to be calling from, and the type of information or payment they are attempting to receive and report that information to them at 919-968-2760.
