Chapel Hill Police are asking for public assistance in locating and apprehending a suspect in connection with a robbery Saturday afternoon.
This is the second reported robbery of the weekend in Chapel Hill.
Police said the second incident occurred in the area of Kensington Trace Condominiums around 12:20 p.m.
The suspect and victim had arranged to meet at the location to complete a transaction involving a cell phone that had been listed on Craigslist. When the victim arrived, police said, the suspect got into the victim’s vehicle and displayed a black and gray pistol.
The suspect took the victim’s wallet and fled on foot. The victim was unharmed.
Some pieces of the robbery are similar to a reported armed robbery and kidnapping on Friday night. Police say they are investigating any possible connections between the two incidents.
The suspect in Saturday’s robbery is described as a Hispanic male, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin to medium build. Police said the suspect had long hair and was wearing black shorts, black socks and black sandals with a “raincoat type top.”
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call either Chapel Hill Police at (919) 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous. The caller may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
