CARRBORO – The woman who left a service dog in a car in Carrboro for approximately two hours which resulted in the dog’s death has been charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Forty-two year old Debra Cunningham of Carrboro left Worthy in a vehicle in the middle of the day on June 10. Cunningham is the program director for Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Paws (EENP) where Worthy was being trained to be a service dog.

Cunningham was served a criminal summons by the Carrboro Police Department on Monday. She will have to appear in court in Hillsborough August 8.
