While attending the UNC – Duke game on March 4 is on the bucket list for many college basketball fans in the Triangle, police are warning those looking for tickets about counterfeits.

After UNC sent a caution out earlier in the week, Carrboro Police have now arrested a Durham man for possessing “numerous counterfeit tickets” to the upcoming game between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils in Chapel Hill.

Police say an investigator in the department noticed a “suspicious post” on Craigslist and contacted the seller. The investigator arranged a meeting and determined 25-year-old Adam Sanchez was selling fake tickets.

Sanchez was taken into custody and charged with attempt to obtain property by false pretense and criminal use of counterfeit trademark, both of which are felonies. Sanchez was taken to the Orange County Jail and held under a $15,000 secured bond.

Anyone looking for tickets is urged to use caution when buying from another individual. It is also recommended that ticket purchases be made through reputable third-party vendors.

Anyone who may have also purchased tickets from Sanchez is asked to contact Carrboro Police at (919) 918-7397 or Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515.
