CHAPEL HILL – A shooting in downtown Chapel Hill has sent one victim to UNC Hospitals with multiple gunshot wounds.

“This evening around 6:30, officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Mitchell Lane and West Rosemary Street,” says Chapel Hill Police Lt. Kevin Gunter. “Officers found one victim, a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to UNC Memorial Hospital…

“The only information we received about a suspect was (that it was) a black male (who) fled the area prior to officers’ arrival in a white sedan and is still at large.”

Police are not releasing the victim’s name yet; he was reportedly in surgery at UNC Hospitals.
