A Durham woman’s bond was upped after making her first court appearance for allegedly attempting to run over a Chapel Hill Police Officer.

District Court Judge Beverly Scarlett set Joanne Kay Hall’s bond at $35,000 after her appearance on Tuesday. The 50-year-old Hall was arrested on Monday after Officer Drew Cabe attempted to pull the vehicle Hall was driving over for speeding.

Hall fled leading Cabe on a pursuit before coming to a stop in traffic on U.S. 15-501, where the officer approached Hall’s vehicle, according to police.

Assistant District Attorney Jeff Nieman says at that point, Hall allegedly struck Cabe with her vehicle by adjusting the angle of her car and then driving toward the officer.

Nieman adds Cabe told him during their preliminary conversation that he then went onto the hood of the vehicle and rolled off the side.

Cabe fired a shot that deflated the vehicle’s left-rear tire. Hall was then arrested without further incident.

Hall has been charged with Speeding to Elude Arrest, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill on a Governmental Officer, Hit & Run, and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle – all felonies. She’s also been charged with five misdemeanors: resisting arrest, driving while license revoked, speeding, careless and reckless driving, and failure to yield to blue lights/siren. Her next court appearance is slated for June 1.
