Chatham County authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a reported shooting last weekend.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that 20-year-old Chesley Dion McSwain, of Siler City, was arrested Thursday in connection with a shooting on Newland Street on Saturday, February 3.

Authorities said that the incident allegedly escalated to the shooting after starting as an argument. One victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Witnesses led investigators to obtain warrants charging McSwain in the shooting.

McSwain has been charged with one count of felony attempted first-degree murder, felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present and one count of communicating threats.

He is being held under a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court on February 26.

Authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.
