CHAPEL HILL – Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools announced the placement of three new principals to fill vacancies at Carrboro Elementary, Rashkis Elementary, and Chapel Hill High.

The Board approved Jillian La Serna to take over at Carrboro once Emily Bivins takes the position of principal next year at the new Frank Porter Graham Dual-Language Magnet school. La Serna has served as assistant principal at Carrboro since July 2011 and was an administrative intern the year before that. She is currently working on her doctorate from UNC and expected to finish that program by May 2014. She will take over as principal at Carrboro July 1.

Dr. Janice Croasmun was the assistant principal at Rashkis since 2006 and took the position on an interim basis this year. The Board approved her taking over that role in the full capacity effective immediately. Dr. Croasmun was an elementary teacher for 13 years in West Virginia, Florida, and here in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. She also earned her doctorate from UNC.

Salura Jackson will leave Ann Arbor Michigan this summer to take the role as principal at Chapel Hill High. Jackson was the 2011 Michigan High School Principal of the Year and brings more than a quarter-century of experience both teaching and leading. Jackson has been serving as the founding principal of Skyline High in Michigan where she’s been since 2006. She will begin at Chapel Hill on July 8.
