CHAPEL HILL – A man who last month was arrested for a disturbance involving a firearm, was arrested again earlyThursday morning for a host of charges including driving while impaired (DWI).

“This was a traffic stop where Mr. Fearrington was stopped and arrested for DWI,” saysChapel Hill Police Department public information officer Sgt. Josh Mecimore. “He was charged with driving while impaired, drunken disruptive behavior, driving with a revoked license, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.”

The accident occurred at 809 N Columbia Street near Longview Drive. In Ahmaud Fearrington’s earlier arrest, he was eventually taken into custody near the Chapel Hill Cemetery after twice attempting to elude arrest, said Mecimore.

“It appears that he was driving, had a collision, continued on, and was eventually stopped and arrested for the four different misdemeanors,” says Mecimore.

According to the crash report, Fearrington crossed the center lane and hit another vehicle. He than attempted to continue driving before hitting two mailboxes.

Despite the fact that both incidents occurred so close to each other, Mecimore says it is unlikely the other charges are taken into account during either sentencing.

“I don’t know if the court would take that into consideration, especially since he probably wouldn’t go to trial on either of them very long before the other,” says Mecimore. “DWI’s have a very lengthy time before they go to trial. The other charges he has, I don’t know how long it might take, but they would not have any bearing on each other.”
