CHAPEL HILL- Next month, a prominent local service organization is inviting community members to learn more about its mission.

On March 19, the Chapel Hill Rotary Club will host a special membership drive. President Bobbi Wallace says the evening will be designed for those who are considering joining the group.

“What we wanted to do was make sure the community knows that Chapel Hill Rotary is open to other people,” she says.

UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham will serve as the event’s guest speaker.

Rotary clubs exist worldwide and include 1.3 million business and professional leaders who are interested in humanitarian and community service. The group is open to all different backgrounds and faiths.

New CH Rotary member Barbara Crane, who works in the women’s health field, says she decide to join because she’s always been attracted to the organization’s global focus.

“Rotary was very instrumental in eradicating polio around the world, and it’s really a global network of service,” she says. “For me, it was an opportunity to connect more with leaders in the community and to learn more about what’s going on in the community.”

The March 19 meeting will begin at 6:00 in the evening at Chapel Hill Country Club. Those who wish to come are asked to first contact Bobbi Wallace at chapelhillrotary@gmail.com. Interested participants can also call the Chapel Hill Rotary phone number at 919-533-9415
