Chapel Hill’s Eastgate Crossing will be home to the next Bake Shop from Guglhupf Bakery, Café & Restaurant.

“We are excited to bring the bakery to Chapel Hill,” Guglhupf owner Claudia Kemmet-Cooper said in a release announcing the move on Tuesday morning. “In a way, we are returning to our roots with this smaller second location. The Bake Shop takes me back to our original Bakery & Patisserie we opened in 1998 by focusing on our bakery operations and offering the same product mix we have in the retail bakery in Durham.”

The Bake Shop will occupy a 1,250 square foot space and will “focus on fresh pastries, bread and specialty baked goods while also offering choice provisions and coffee service,” according to a release.

Eastgate has been undergoing several projects recently in an attempt to draw in new vendors.

Guglhupf first opened at the Durham location on Durham – Chapel Hill Boulevard in 1998.

The Guglhupf Bake Shop is scheduled to open in April 2017 in the space sharing a parking lot with Trader Joes, Brueggers Bagels and the new Ulta in Eastgate Shopping Center.
